LALU Shop Introduction

Last post of the year 2010! Are you looking forward to the new year? It's been awhile you've heard from me, but I'm finally gonna post something. I'll try my best to be a little more productive. Also it's been really hard to find something new to report about especially when there a lot of shops carrying the same type of clothing. Mass production. I was even more disappointed when I was in Camden & The Stables in London because it felt a lot like Bugis street and the price was no different either.

Now that I'm finally back on the other side of the world, I can finally do a little more scouting here and there. It's surprising how things change a whole lot in Singapore retail stores within such a short time . This post, will benefit Singaporeans and those who might consider a trip to this sunny island. Beware, it's really hot out here.

So I was lucky enough to score a sponsored shopping trip at LALU. A shop that had my eyes going in all directions with grabby hands in motion! There are 4 branches of this shop in total and boy do i have to make that trip to all 4 shop sometime soon. They sell Shoes, clothes, accessories ( belts ,jewelery watches) and decor.

I went to the Liang Court Branch and it's pretty big. Liang Court (Mall) and me have this affinity or something, I practically live there almost all my life and I know a number of people working there and I've also influence some people there to bring in Mori clothing. When this shop open, it was like...heaven. I don't really want to spoil the shopping discovery experience so I'm not going to spoiler too much.

Racks and Racks of clothes...wait till you see the dressing room in real life. I love the mirrors.

The mini corner i'd like to call, the boyfriend corner, because it's a place where the boyfriend can wait for his girlfriend until he needs to pay for her. : x
They actually sell these decor items!

Belts, watches and jewellery

The Price range for the clothes here. $40- $100. I ended up with a skirt, a jacket vest and some cool leggings but that post is for another time!

So I hope you enjoy this post and still continue to read on!

With love...an oxfam jute bag of mori motto! and me of course :x

London Fashion Week 2010

It's been a while since I've posted here eh? Coming to two months if i'm not wrong. I apologize for my absence because I've been extremely busying and currently traveling around Europe and settling down in UK for awhile. So this is really an out dated news but I would like to back log a little.

So I attended London Fashion week 2010 with a few of my mates and I was really tempted to shop like crazy, luckily not all things come in my size, if you know what I mean. Running around in heels is a very tiring and horrible experience. The runway featured one of the designers that I admire, Ashley Isham. Forgive my Ignorance, but it has been a month and I don't exactly remember the rest of the designers who were featured but most of the photos I took is from the Ashley Isham collection.

Anyway, here was what i wore that day. Unfortunately the flare of my dress isn't photographed nicely but it's alright. I was still trying to keep the mori-ness. Trying is the word, but I know I can do better. Photos on my friend's blog at www.jayleif.com

on to the fashion photos!

Thats it! Hope you enjoy this post and I do hope to post more.

Tokio Hotel Fan meet

First of all I must apologize for not updating any sooner. I will however try my best to update if Uni doesn't kill me first. So moving on, today was a very random one and I ended up seeing Tokio Hotel today. I was bummed about missing yesterday's concert because I could only pick one day to watch a band and I chose my all time favorite 30 seconds to Mars and plus there was a better line up for tomorrow's event. I must say that, today brought me memories of my emo scene queen wannabe days (oh my youth)! Goodness I must share the crappy photos of myself like that! Then it'll really be 2manysubcultures! My loot from today~ Basically I had really crappy photos today, so I won't waste your time by posting it, instead however i'll post a short video. :) Youtube's being slow at the moment...meanwhile i'll show you my crappy photos in those days. I'll embarrass myself but hey I go through all these phases so that you don't have to? might as well share it! you can totally guess that I put these photos on myspace! X_X

During my love for Panic!at the disco days...I'm pretty damn proud of the birds on my face.

Oh dear another myspace webcam photo...the so called male version of me.
Oh yes, back then i'm Kyoru Dyzpunktionall.like...dizzypunktional...LIke...okay nevermind.

I don't know.

One thing, I do miss though, is the hair...I LOVE having wild hair...but i hate retouching roots :) Well I hope you found that entertaining...

Okay here's the short video...you might want to lower the volume.

::Outfit post::

Yesterday I attended the preview of Singapore's National day parade. To be a little bit patriotic, I wore something red which is one of the colors of our national flag. It was actually an outfit experiment for me. I wouldn't call it absolutely Dollykei because I only took elements of it only. So maybe it's like a casual version of it or something. Again please excuse my swollen face.
Boater hat, Top:Thrift store, Bottom: random dark denim shorts, Purple hosiery: Uniqlo shoes: ballet flats

If you didn't know already, I bought the top straightaway because it reminded me of this photo (credit: tokyofashion.com)

Looks like more work needs to be done!

:: Nodame cantabile movie :: Ueno Juri 上野 樹里

Hey guys, I'm updating from the movie theatre to watch the newly released nodame cantabile movie of the second installation.

The movie just ended and it was a very satisfying end! I have been following the drama series all the way to the movies. The actors were very engaging! I really love the female lead, Ueno Juri. Her acting really makes me laugh and cry with her! I've never been so moved by an actress.

Anyway this post is featuring, Ueno Juri. I consider her as one of my idols. Ueno Juri was is an award-winning Japanese actress from Kakogawa, Hyogo, Japan. She has also graced the pages mori girl magazines. In one of her latest dramas, Sunao ni narakute, she's seen often wearing the casual version of mori girl. Her make up is usually very natural and does her hair in a hassle-free kinda way. Here are just some photos of her!

I think she's a very talented actress and Nodame Cantabile is probably one of her best works. I look forward to see her in other shows! So if you have never watch it, what are you waiting for?

Mori Make up inspiration of the day!

I love the color palette on this one! Pretty sweet and natural...almost. Remember more is less, less is more!
A Jill Stuart ad.

I know not all mori girls fancy wearing make up but you really should do the basics! Here's a quick checklist!

1. Primer - to make your face look smooth and flawless
2. Concealer (optional) - to get rid of any thing you'd like to conceal ;)
3. foundation (optional)- A little bit of foundation is good but don't over do it! You could straight away replace this with face powder if you want to.
4. Face powder
5. Blusher - for that mori girl glow!
6. Lipgloss or nude lipstick (optional)

I've not included eyeliner, but I usually use it anyway, instead of black try brown, but it all depends on what you'd like to achieve.

K-pop culture

Credit goes to whoever took this.

Hi all, reporting live from 2am concert! While I'm still waiting for them to perform. Rainy day today...and lots of fans, about 3000 wet fans that is!

The empty stage and calm fans before the chaos.
The fans under the rainy weather!

I'm going to talk briefly about Korean culture/fashion. I'm pretty new to the scene unless you Count me liking h.o.t and shinhwa back then! I'm here with a bunch of fans and most are sporting the Korean fashion.

I love Korean fashion ,it can be cute
And really Edgy. That being said these korean artistes Really know how to set the trend. They also really have beautiful Mori girl outfits too, however, it is really expensive and I'm not even talking about Those blog wholesale kind!

Back to 2AM...
Here are just two videos that I uploaded on Youtube. (beware of screaming fans and I swear it's not me screaming.)

and here's one with less screaming...

All taken with Iphone.

They came, they performed and then...lucky fans, get to see them close and go for a fansign!I was lucky to be one of them however the security was so strict that I didn't even get to see some of them properly.

It was a pretty tiring day but a satisfying one nonetheless! I was really happy to meet them and hear them sing live! The K wave is so strong in Singapore now and people of all races are now affected by it! Anyway I'm signing off with a photo of satisfied fans (a.k.a me and my friends)

::cosplay::

I don't really know if I should consider Cosplay a subculture but I think where you live makes the difference. Like in Japan, I think it is a subculture where else, in America, i don't think it's a subculture. As for where I am living, I think it has become a subculture after many years.

I've noticed in the past two years atleast there has been cosplayers almost every weekend and now we even have like 3 maid cafes. It has come to the point that the general public are so used to it and know what it is.

Anyway, my sister and I went to Cosfest 2010 this year and ACTUALLY COSPLAYING SOMETHING NOT OBSCURE. We're both mad I guess, because we cosplay things like musicals, rockbands and something else. So for once it's really Japanese. Well we kinda did that on the second day X3.

So I don't know why we still do this. It's been 8 years at least for me, I should be "retiring" but I recently got the cosplay fever again after so long or it could just be the attention seeking...whore in me.
So I'm signing off with a photo because I have to meet Korean Band 2AM! <3

:: Make Up: Majolica Majorca :: Inspiration::

I know I promised a cosplay post, but it totally back fired on me. I couldn't manage to take much photos at all but instead my photo gets taken alot. If anyone was wondering, I went as Sebastian Michealis from Kuroshitsuji on the first day and on the second, I went as Mozart from Mozart l'Opera Rock which was really funny especially channeling Mikelangelo Loconte's version of Mozart.

That aside, I just wanted to post about one of my favorite make up products!
majolica majorca by Shiseido
Although, I don't think that outside of Asia has it, but hey, you can't let that stop you! Online shopping is always the answer! Group orders *hint hint*

I'm not going to explain the products but rather it's portrayal and advertisements and hope that it gives you inspiration. I've always been a fan of this brand and kept using it till now. I knew about this product years ago because of Lolita. Lately I realized that they really have beautiful photos and some look pretty much dolly kei, mori or lolita. The make up always give me ideas to spice up my look!

Here are some photos, hoping to inspire you!
This is the most recent one if i'm not wrong.
Anyway if you ever have the opportunity to try it, please do so!

::Mori Snap::

I'm not really going to say much here today, but sharing another mori girl coordinate worn by my sister when we were out in town. In my opinion, mori girls doing naturel-kei shouldn't be afraid of having a different shade of color or a pop of color once in a while.

In these recent photos, we're both seen wearing grey and creme colored coordinates. Try different pastel colors and if you really like black, why not try a black and grey shades coordinate. As for hair styling, it should not be overdone. It should be hassle free and natural looking.

Before I sign off, I'd like to give a shout out to the girls at Morigirl @ LJ, thanks for the warm welcome! I look forward to sharing more things with all you readers out there! Thanks for reading once again.

::Mori Snap:: UNIQLO:Outfit post

HAVE I EVER MENTIONED HOW MUCH I LOVE UNIQLO?

For one thing, Uniqlo is Japanese casual store which is super mori friendly.I'm pretty much broke because of Uniqlo but the quality is worth it. The worst part about it is that i live near by Uniqlo. tsk tsk. That aside, if you don't have a Uniqlo store near by and want to find out more, check out their website here

I'm absolutely happy with my recent purchase at Uniqlo. I bought one of the Designers Invitation for UT outfits. The designer was Suzuki Takayuki. It's one of my favourite dress now!
A little bit about him, he was born in Aichi prefecture in 1975. He launched his brand "Suzuki Takayuki" in 2002 and has been taking part in the Tokyo Collection since 2007. Suzuki started "Ikkuna/suzukitakayuki," a brand that specializes in organic cotton, as well as "Toha" a collaboration project line. In September 2009, he opened his store in Shibuya PARCO PART-1.

His website is www.suzukitakayuki.com

So here's the coordination shot. The Cardigan and Grey Skirt are from another shop.
You may click to enlarge and please pardon my facial expression!

Lolitas on the Ice skating ring!

Not too long ago, I went Ice skating with my lolita friends, organized by Black Alice ( a lolita shop in Singapore). It was really my first time Ice skating ever and also the first of almost all the lolitas who attended. Nevertheless it was a good new experience for me despite a bruise that I got while trying to get up from a fall.

Eventually, I sort of got the hang of it, also with the help of more experienced loli-skaters who were so very kind to teach me. I ended up wearing more towards the EGA style :) also for the fear that i'll freeze or something which was not exactly the case! Anyway, I'm just going to share a few photos, credit goes to Black Alice of course.

I call this the Lolita life line...Lolitas hanging for their dear lives! I'm doing the same thing too...I'm the really black figure...Marjolein from Holland, has no problems with skating as compared to us Singaporeans. We lack of ice. She kindly helps out lolitas skate. We were happy to have her around and hope she'll come back again one day.

This is a photo of me in the middle...with a..."I can't take it anymore pose." Probably the first few shaky rounds! I did manage to skate twice around the ring without touching the sides! I was really exhausted just keeping my balance up!
Below is a group photo! The guy next to me is Tim, who is the owner of black alice. It's really good to meet up with fellow lolitas and experience new things :) I had a good time.

Dollykei Hairstyles & Wigs

It's been a while since my last post!

Before I begin, the photos used in this post belongs to their respective owners.

When you first look at dolly kei girls you will immediately notice that most of them have bangs! The most popular colors range from purples to blonde! Take a look at this chart, these are just a few of the colors that i have observed. Of course there's dark browns too! Hair colors for dolly kei is really not restricted as seen from some dolly kei girls. I've seen silver-ish purple, orangey and really purple!

Lets take a look at the stylings!

The most popular one i've seen so far between mori girls and Dolly kei girls is the Long or short bob. See what I mean with colors not being restricted?
The longer styles can either be with or without bangs. However mostly seen with wavy or large curls but nothing too drastic either.

Finally, the long hair but tied up with bangs version!
Most of them either tied it in a pony tail and make it into a bun or sometimes tie to the side with a little accessory. Most importantly, the BANGS are important! Be it above or below eyebrow.

So are you interested in achieving some of the hairstyles??

If you have a big budget, I recommend Prisilla wigs which you can get on Rakuten.co.jp however
I think korean wigs might be more suitable. Try to join a group order from LJ communities~! or try gmarket.com. I recommend wigsfrom Gabalnara great for Lolita, Morigyaru or Dolly kei.

Another alternative, if you know your way around, try Taobao from cosplay wigs shops.

If you're really on a tight budget, maybe ebay? I recently bought a wig for just $11usd shipping included and i'm satisfied with the quality, I'll post up a pic one day. I bought it from here.

Bear in mind that if you want really good wigs, try to get the ones made from heat resisting fiber. :)

I hope this entry was useful! Thank you for reading!
